SUMMARY:Humanity Returns to the Moon - Artemis II Launch Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:After 54 years\, NASA is returning astronauts to the Moon with Artemis II. In 2022\, NASA launched Artemis I—an uncrewed mission designed to test the Space Launch System rocket and Orion Spacecraft. Now\, the Artemis II test flight will send astronauts Reid Wiseman\, Victor Glover\, Christina Koch\, & Jeremy Hansen on a 10-day mission out to and around the Moon. Their first steps back to the Moon will usher in a giant leap for humanity as NASA prepares for a long-term moon base and missions that will take humans beyond Earth’s orbit. Artemis II is scheduled to launch during a two-hour window starting at 6:24 PM EDT on April 1st. Join us as we discuss this historic mission and give you an overview of the Artemis program. As launch time approaches\, we’ll tun into the NASA livestream to see the Artemis II crew take to the skies!

SUMMARY:Artemis II Lunar Flyby Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Join us in-person at Kopernik Observatory starting at 6PM to watch the Artemis II Lunar Flyby! Today\, April 6\, astronauts aboard Artemis II return humanity to the Moon for a lunar flyby—the first mission of its kind since 1972. During this flyby\, boundaries will be pushed\, records will be set\, and a new generation of space exploration begins. Watch the lunar flyby in Kopernik Observatory’s Space Science Lab. Learn how to track Artemis II and other missions to space using NASA resources in our Computer Lab. We are also anticipating partly cloudy skies this evening and if that holds\, the observatory will also be open for telescope viewing. Don’t miss this historic event! \n\n\n\nFood will not be provided\, however\, we welcome you to bring your own packaged snacks and bottled drinks (candy\, chips\, soda\, etc.).
