SUMMARY:The Evolution of Virtual Reality Part I - The History of VR
DESCRIPTION:The human experience derives from the senses—they shape our reality. The most powerful trait of our species is that we can communicate our realities to one another. BOOM—a clap of the hands—we have an analogue describing thunder! Draw out a series of lines on a cave wall and we have visual storytelling. By harnessing technology and the senses\, we learned to simulate the world around us—this is the story of virtual reality (VR). In this deep dive into the history of VR\, discover the techniques and technologies that brought us the VR we know today. On May 22nd\, return to KOSC for Part II to explore the present and future of VR and try out our VR Classroom.

SUMMARY:Science and Religion Part 3: Conflict or Consilience on Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Thomas O’Brien\, Professor Emeritus\, Binghamton University\n\n\n\nCome explore highlights of 1) the history of our scientific understanding of climate change and 2) the ancient to modern religious perspective of stewardship of our common garden-home\, Spaceship Earth. Consilience (rather than denialism) of Judeo-Christian & scientific perspectives provide leveraged power to create win-win synergy between sustainable economics and ecology. You will leave with practical\, ethical\, research-informed action steps to help us become “less of the problem and more of the solution” to this local-to-global\, existential challenge-opportunity.
