Kopernk Observatory and Science Center is open mainly on Friday nights. However, you may schedule a free tour of our facilities on weekdays between 10am-3:00 p.m. Other times may also be available. Please call (607) 748-3685 to arrange for your tour ahead of time.

Kopernik Observatory is open to the public every Friday Evening regardless of sky conditions.
Doors open at 7:30 PM. Programs begin at 8:00 PM
Friday night programs begin in our Space Science lab usually with short introduction about the night sky and up coming celestial events. Presentations may include a We offer a variety of topics that go “Beyond Space” and are presented by professors, science teachers, our staff, Kopernik Astronomical Society members and even NASA scientists and astronauts. There are telescope tours and if clear, spectacular viewing through Kopernik’s telescopes before and after the program.
Winter Hours (January – February)
During these Winter months, the Kopernik Observatory will be open only on special weekend nights about once a month. These special dates will be listed under “Public Programs“. One of these special programs is our popular “Winter Star Party” which is usually held at the end of February. Doors open at 6:30PM and programs by a guest speaker start promptly at 7:00PM. If clear, viewing through our telescopes will be available to see the spectacular Winter skies. Please keep in mind that our telescope domes are not heated but you can warm-up in our lobby with some coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Dress warmly!
